On January 21st, Peach Aviation (MM/APJ) announced that they will launch Okinawa/Naha (OKA/ROAH) - Fukuoka (FUK/RJFF) service on July 19th. It will coincide with the carrier's opening of the Naha hub, its second base after Osaka/Kansai (KIX/RJBB). One Airbus A320 along with maintenance crews will be based there. The timetable for the new route is as follows:
July 19th - September 20th, 2014
MM288 OKA 1635 - 1815 FUK 320 Daily
MM289 FUK 1845 - 2025 OKA 320 Daily
September 21st - October 25th, 2014
MM288 OKA 1820 - 2000 FUK 320 Daily
MM289 FUK 2030 - 2210 OKA 320 Daily
The route will be the Kansai-based airline's 11th domestic route, and will compete with three others; Skymark Airlines (BC/SKY) with three round-trips, Japan Airlines (JL/JAL)-subsidiary Japan Transocean Air (NU/JTA) with six round-trips, and sister carriers All Nippon Airways (NH/ANA) and ANA Wings (EH/AKX) which together fly eight round-trips under the ANA brand. Peach's one-way fare for this route will range from 3,990 to 21,690 JPY, and tickets went on sale on January 21st.
Taking advantage of it strategic location, Peach will develop Naha into a hub that will funnel passengers between the main islands of Japan and destinations in southeast Asia, which are expected to be launched in 2015. From Naha, the carrier currently operates to Ishigaki (ISG/ROIG), Kansai, and Taipei/Taoyuan (TPE/RCTP). Peach currently operates 11 A320s with another three planned for delivery in 2014.
